Yesterday world-renowned DJ and producer Armin van Buuren unveiled his wax likeness in Madame Tussauds. Visitors of Madame Tussauds can now stand next to Armin in the DJ booth for a spectacular performance in front of the biggest Hollywood stars.

Armin was asked to pose twice for the sculpture, enthusiastically working with the sculptors. In total more than 500 different measurements had to be taken and and at least as many photographs. During the second session in London, particular attention was paid to his facial features and expressions.

After the second session, a mold was made and the wax was poured. The uncolored wax was then dyed, and individual hairs were added to the figure one at a time — even exact copies of Armin’s teeth and eyes were made as well. During the whole process, from the first posing session to the finishing touches, fifteen different people worked on the project for four months.

The sculpture of the iconic DJ now resides in Madame Tussauds behind a DJ booth in the so-called ‘A-list’ room where he ‘plays’ for international stars like Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Annemiek Dolfin, the head of marketing for Madame Tussauds: “We are incredibly honored that we now have the likeness of one of the most prominent DJs in the world in our attraction. His passion for music, contribution to the promotion of dance music worlwide, and numerous nominations helped us make the choice to create this sculpture. Armin was in the top five of the most requested figures, so we will also be meeting the wishes of many of our visitors.”

In celebration of the launch of the new Philips M1X-DJ Controller (created in partnership with Armin van Buuren), Armin offered a special masterclass at Apple’s flagship store in Sydney for a group of lucky attendees. After demonstrating the full capabilities of the M1X-DJ in combination with an iPad, Armin had a meet and greet with fans.

During the session, Philips presented van Buuren with a special, custom Philips surfboard, prominently featuring the Armin logo and concept drawings of the M1X.

Looking back on these heartwarming images and faces reminds us not only of the extensive history of Armada, but also the incredible impact that 10 short years can have on the world.

We here at camp Armin van Buuren would like to say thank you to all the supporters (fans, DJs, performers, partners…) that have helped us over the years, and we promise that we will do everything in our power to make the next decade as magical as the first.

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the world’s leading event for electronic music, is pleased to welcome French music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre to its 19th edition (15 to 19 October). Jarre will be interviewed by own Armin!

Jean-Michel Jarre elevated the electronic music genre to new peaks of popularity as early as the late 70’s and 80’s with 80 million albums sold worldwide, to date. His approach to melodic, instrumental electronic pop music still sounds fresh today. With his astonishing live shows he played huge concerts to millions of fans in iconic sites such as London’s Docklands and the Pyramids of Giza, combining state-of-the-art sounds and lights to create a thoroughly immersive experience that pre-dated today’s huge, technically sophisticated EDM raves.

He remains a very busy man, having taken on the presidency of CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, where he campaigns tirelessly for copyright protection, as well as continuing his recording career, and designing high-end speakers for Jarre Technologies.

During the ADE Jean-Michel Jarre will be interviewed by Armin, as part of ADE’s extensive conference program.

”Jean-Michel was one of the electronic music pioneers at the point where it was not called ‘trance’ or ‘EDM’ yet. In the beginning the synthesizer was seen by many as a ‘devil’ instrument and its music was not particularly called ‘music’. With albums like ‘Oxygen’, ‘Equinox’ and ‘Zoolook’ Jean-Michel reached a wide audience and opened many doors for synthesizer music. This device has been at the basis of what we now call dance. Additionally Jarre is also a pioneer when it comes to large audience performances and techniques such as video projection, says Armin van Buuren.

The Amsterdam Dance Event takes place from 15 to 19 October and is organized by the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation, an initiative of Buma.

Thomas Newson, the young performer who exceeds expectations at every turn, is at it once again. It’s no secret that ‘Alone’ has been working its magic around the globe, finding its way into radio playlists the world over and into the hearts of countless fans. Newson was afforded the opportunity to give his own spin to the tune, and boy did he knock it out of the park!
